Name change

edit

Floods are likely to affect more than SEQ, with Northern Rivers NSW looking to flood overnight. As such I'm renaming the article "2020 Eastern Australia floods". sendai (talk) 12:24, 27 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

We don't rename an article based on "are likely to". Catraser5's undiscussed initial move and later Edit warring on this matter are completely unacceptable. HiLo48 (talk) 23:54, 27 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
How is it edit warring? You changed an articles name without consulting anyone, I merely restored it to Sendai's version.--Caltraser5 (talk) 06:09, 28 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Polite editors discuss these changes BEFORE making them. The current name is obviously misleading. HiLo48 (talk) 06:39, 28 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
"Polite editors discuss these changes BEFORE making them." - Says the guy who changed things without discussing them. SEQ, Wide-Bay Burnett, and Northern NSW (all of which is the most eastern part of Australia you can get).--Caltraser5 (talk) 23:41, 28 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Says the person who thinks Sydney isn't in eastern Australia. HiLo48 (talk) 08:43, 1 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
You're not anywhere near local, so I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt.
I changed the name at ~2330 my local the night prior to the heavy flooding.
I had spent most of the day helping people in the area lift hundreds of kgs of property out of the likely flood zone. Sorry I didn't have time nor the energy to add references.
I woke up to evacuation sirens at ~0300, the river had reached the "Major"
flood height of 9.7m shortly after I went to sleep at ~0030 and was likely to top the levee later in the morning, I left the evacuation to the police and State Emergency Service. Sorry I didn't update WP.
I had some sort of sleep and woke up at ~0530, the levee of 10.2m–10.6m (depending on water velocity) had been breached and it was still raining. Didn't update WP, sorry.
I was out helping people again when the flood went over the historic highest
levels of 12.5m at ~0615. Didn't update.
You reverted my change at ~1040 my local. Thank you for that, I really appreciate someone correcting my edit with fact rather than forecast.
The river peaked to ~14.6m at ~1300, two metres over the highest level recorded.
Sorry I didn't have time to update WP between all that. I'm sorry I'm giving a muppet this much of my time and effort, a muppet that didn't even check what the actual situation was and called the article "obviously misleading". You have quite the screed on your User: page, check yourself before you make more of a fool out of yourself. sendai (talk) 22:27, 1 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
'2022 Eastern Australia floods' is a perfectly acceptable name and accurate. Nford24 (PE121 Personnel Request Form) 02:20, 3 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Shouldn't this be titled 2022 eastern Australia floods (lowercase eastern)? Eastern Australia isn't actually a region, its just the eastern part of Australia. Steelkamp (talk) 02:44, 3 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

No objections, so I have moved it. Steelkamp (talk) 01:48, 4 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

It was not destroyed, they are designed to break apart to let debris though. https://www.aurecongroup.com/about/sustainability-aurecon/sustainability-stories/brisbane-ferry-terminals Reubot (talk) 15:02, 27 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

A notice

edit

Hi, I have just marked a few pages relating to places where the floods are with {{Current related||2022 Eastern Australia floods|date=February 2022}} (this happens a lot with pages, e.g pages relating to Tonga (including the page Tonga) used to have this message and currently pages relating to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine (including the pages Ukraine, Russia, Kiev and Vladimir Putin); and considering the floods are a pretty significant event, I think this template is necessary, so please feel free to mark more articles with this template. Thanks. MINECRAFT AUSTRALIA123 (talk) 02:54, 1 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Do these floods have an end date?

edit

An IP editor has just added a fatality to the numbers in the article because of a person dying today in Towoomba from a flood event. While no source was supplied, one is readily available, so I could add one. Given the article's title, this is a perfectly reasonable addition, but is this really what we want? Do we want every death this year from flood events in Eastern Australia included here? Personally, I don't think so. Thoughts? HiLo48 (talk) 07:20, 28 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Somebody has just added detail for this event under the heading Subsequent flooding. Given the title of the article, are we going to have subsequent flooding events all year? HiLo48 (talk) 09:40, 28 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Ceiling collapse isn't flooding

edit

Current version of the article reads:

"In the Upper North Shore, the Roseville Bridge was flooded, in addition to a portion of a ceiling at Bondi Junction Westfield collapsing."

Fair enough about the Roseville Bridge part, but a ceiling collapse in a shopping mall sounds more related to the weather than the actual flooding itself. Is it relevant to the article? 120.21.134.240 (talk) 09:06, 28 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

The flooding article covers all weather damage me thinks. --StellarNerd (talk) 18:04, 2 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Round 2?

edit

Just wondering if the recent heavy rains across South-East Queensland (again) are considered still part of this flooding event? If not, I think it might be a good idea to just get some names for this and a new article floating around if we need to create another one for this most recent flooding? – Eastern Australia isn't a place. It is describing the eastern part of Australia. It should not be capitalised. Steelkamp (talk) 06:28, 15 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Steelkamp: Is an RM really needed for simply correcting an erroneous capitalization? NoahTalk 11:16, 15 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
I've previously moved 2022 Eastern Australia floods to 2022 eastern Australia floods, but somebody moved it back. I've also been told before that any move involving capitalisation is always contentious, so I am no longer making moves myself that change capitalisation. Steelkamp (talk) 11:20, 15 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Gosh, so the last couple hundred moves I did were controversial? Nobody said a thing. Dicklyon (talk) 05:09, 16 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
