History

edit

Early Years (1994-2007)

Shalby Hospitals sttarted in the year 1994 in Ahmedabad, by Dr. Vikram Shah as a small six-bedded unit that offered total knee replacement (TKR) surgery.[5] The company was incorporated as Shalby Hospitals Private Limited in 2004.

Expansion and Growth (2007-2017)

In 2007, Shalby established its first multispecialty hospital in Ahmedabad with a capacity of 201 beds. The company continued to expand its footprint through acquisitions and new hospital establishments. In 2012, it acquired Krishna Hospital in Ahmedabad and expanded to South Gujarat with another Hospital in Vapi.[6] The company further extended its reach to Central and North India by opening hospitals in Indore, Jabalpur and Mohali.[7]

In 2017, Shalby became a public limited company by launching an Initial Public Offering (IPO) on the NSE and BSE.[8] The company added new hospitals in Jaipur, Surat, Ahmedabad and Mumbai (Zynova Shalby), growing its capacity to over 2000 beds.[9]

Recent Developments (2010–Present)

In 2018, Shalby achieved the milestone of having performed over 150,000 joint replacement surgeries. The company further diversified into the medical devices business by acquiring knee and hip implant manufacturing assets from Consensus Orthopedics in California, USA, becoming the only vertically integrated hospital player in Orthopedics in India.[10] Shalby also introduced an asset-light business model with Shalby Orthopedics Centers of Excellence (SOCE), opening its first center in Udaipur. In 2022, Shalby obtained a license to import knee and hip implants in India and established a second SOCE in Lucknow. The following year, it received a permit to sell these implants in Indonesia and opened a third SOCE in Gwalior.[11]

Shalby Hospitals acquire Sanar International Hospitals, Gurugram (NCR) in January, 2024.[12] Shalby Limited continues to expand its presence and services in the healthcare sector, providing quality medical care to patients across India.
