History

edit

Founded in 1993, the company provides full-stack OSS/BSS solutions to communications service providers.[1] Netcracker has since expanded into cloud-native, microservices-based solutions,[4] virtualization, automation, generative artificial intelligence (GenAI)[5] and Digital Satellite Service solutions.

On October 21, 2008, NEC Corporation acquired Netcracker for about US$300 million making it a wholly owned subsidiary of NEC.[1][6][7] According to online publication, ComputerWorld, the acquisition would expand NEC's offerings to several more industries including Internet Service Providers, broadband network companies and large-business service companies. The expansion is due to Netcracker's telecommunication provider customer base. NEC was expecting the acquisition to generate US$1.9 billion over the following 5 years through providing services to international carriers.[3]

Acquisitions

edit
  • 2004 – Firma AVD, a company headquartered in Moscow specializing in system integration, business process engineering and IT consulting.[8][9]
  • 2011 – Subex's activation business, including Subex's NetProvision, NetOptimizer, Vector products and associated business.[10][11][12]
  • 2012 – Global Information Management division of Convergys[13][14][15]
  • 2016 – CoralTree Systems, a systems integrator and service provider[16][17]

Enhanced Security Plan Agreement

edit

On December 11, 2017, the United States Department of Justice announced in a press release a mutual agreement was reached with Netcracker regarding enhanced security protocols in software development.[2] One primary finding that led to the agreement was Netcracker's use of a global technical workforce creating concerns for security of sensitive individual data, sensitive network data, and domestic communications infrastructure. This concern was considered critical in light of "the cyber threat posed by foreign government agencies and cyber criminals".[18] The agreement would enhance security of U.S. telecommunications networks limiting information sent to, stored in, or accessed from overseas locations. Under the non-prosecution and security agreement,[18] Netcracker would designate a Security Director and create/implement a security policy detailing specific procedures to comply with the plan.[19]
