Hi! I've made an updated version of this gadget, and made several improvements where it was lacking. I've fixed the following contents: logo, infobox, tables, table contrast issues, warnings, documentation templates, footer and user signatures.
Here is the updated version: User:Dodoïste/monobook.css. Thanks, Dodoïste (talk) 20:56, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
- Done. Any problems please let me know — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:38, 20 June 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks. User:Axl who is using this gadget asked me to fix another issue with RFA templates backgrounds. I've updated User:Dodoïste/monobook.css accordingly, here is the difference. Could you update again? Thanks! Dodoïste (talk) 15:51, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

Per request from user Axl, I've fixed the background of several boxes used on discussion pages such as WP:AN/I. The logo is fixed too. The new version is at User:Dodoïste/monobook.css. Could you update this skin? Cheers, Dodoïste (talk) 17:18, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

External links icons removed
editHello! If this CSS adds or modifies icons shown after external links, you'll be interested in knowing that such icons have been removed from MediaWiki core, a change which will reach this wiki in few days. You may want to consider whether you still need them. If you have questions, please ask at bugzilla:63725. Regards, Nemo 09:45, 10 April 2014 (UTC)

- A workaround until the bug is fixed is raising the CSS specificity by prepending all selectors with
html
. The following regexp should do the trick:(^|, *)([^{@/,}\n]+?)(?=\s*[{,])
replace with\1html \2

Contrast
editThe colors mostly work well but two things are difficult:
- Star for watchlisting. The change is barely perceptible.
- Save button in Visual Editor. I know it's the big blue button but the word is, again, barely perceptible.
Jim.henderson (talk) 17:07, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
- I tested you as protanopia colorblind, right? Because there's contrast issue for the people. Its going to be longer as the images need to be remade.
The visual editor bug is a result of the original's signature recoloring code. I'll fix it tonight. — Dispenser 22:08, 21 April 2017 (UTC)- Updates for Visual Editor are include in Special:Permalink/776602400. — Dispenser 01:56, 22 April 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for looking; I am a bit surprised at the outcome. The color change of the watching star is modestly more visible, and the text in the VisEd blue box button is not. Incidentally all my life my eyes have tested yes for astigmatism and myopia, and in recent years yes for presbyopia and small cataracts, but never for any color problem. Maybe on my next ophthalmologist checkup I should ask for extra attention to that detail. Jim.henderson (talk) 20:47, 25 April 2017 (UTC)

Splendid; these two items now have clear, obvious contrast. Wow, am I the only one complaining? And, replying with usually a couple days delay, I certainly can't complain when a fix takes several days. Incidentally, I generally like the scheme because it makes less glare when I'm in a mostly dark room. Also, since I've only activated it in EN, it makes obvious the fact that I'm not working in Simple. So, now I see another, smaller problem with contrast. The "More" tab at the top of an article is dark gray on black. Naturally when that gets fixed I'll find some other nit to pick, but if I'm the only critic . . . Jim.henderson (talk) 14:40, 12 May 2017 (UTC)
- So, here's the next issue even though that earlier one doesn't seem to have attracted attention. Somehow I hadn't noticed in previous weeks, but when I enter search terms in the "Search Wikipedia" box, the letters are invisible. No problem as long as I type correctly, but when using the arrow key to go back and insert a missing letter, I can't see whether I've gone back far enough. No big hurry, of course; these details would only be important if the skin had many users. Jim.henderson (talk) 11:49, 16 May 2017 (UTC)
- Some problems are because of phabricator:T147667 and that I mainly use Monobook and only use the gadget at night. Improved Vector menu support and vector search in Special:Permalink/778277474. — Dispenser 12:00, 20 May 2017 (UTC)

Gadget no longer working properly
editMost pages now displat the main content with green text on a greyish background. The edit box still works as green on black. Happenned today, but for the last few days the Wikipedia golfball and a strip at the top of the page were displaying as a grey background instead of black. DuncanHill (talk) 15:01, 10 April 2018 (UTC) I should mention I use Monobook. DuncanHill (talk) 15:01, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
- Apparently, MediaWiki:Monobook.css which colors article backgrounds white and 'meta' page light-blue loads after this gadget, override the styling. Before today's edit, I was clobbering all CSS to workaround phab:T147667, but that cause other subtle issues. Of course I didn't account for this in my testing, but I've addressed it with my latest edit. — Dispenser 03:15, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
Issue with Pie Chart templates
editI started a thread at Wikipedia:Village_pump_(technical)#Deformed_pie_chart which turns out to be a conflict between the templates and this gadget. To avoid splitting discussion, please could people respod there? Thank you, DuncanHill (talk) 13:09, 4 June 2018 (UTC)
Syntax highlighting causes issues
editOn the 2010 editor it turns the background white and the plaintext black. On the 2017 editor only the text changes color and becomes invisible. Selecting any of the highlighted text will hide that as well.--Nickps (talk) 14:40, 22 June 2018 (UTC)
Notifications problem
editNotifications (thanks, pings) display black text on a black background. I raised this at the village pump Wikipedia:Village_pump_(technical)/Archive_165#Issue_with_blackscreen_gadget_and_Notices a year ago, and the was a Phabricator thingy about it but it was closed as invalid. Can anyone help? Thanks, DuncanHill (talk) 23:33, 27 June 2019 (UTC)
- @DuncanHill: Here are four rules from meta:User:Redrose64/global.css, they go as a set: Unread notifications produce numbers like these; undismissed read notifications produce numbers like these. If you want to use them on all Wikimedia sites, put them in meta:Special:MyPage/global.css; if you want them at English Wikipedia only, put them in Special:MyPage/common.css. Although not designed with Blackskin in mind, they should work with it since both forground and background colors are set explicitly rather than being inherited. You can make the counters red (or blue) with black instead of red (or blue) with white by altering the four instances of
/* Make the notifications counters a bit more noticeable. White on red for alerts where at least one is unseen */ #pt-notifications-alert .mw-echo-notifications-badge.mw-echo-unseen-notifications::after, #pt-notifications-alert .mw-echo-notifications-badge.oo-ui-flaggedElement-unseen::after { background-color: #D11813; /* Vector's colour instead of MonoBook's #DEA4A2 */ color: white; } /* White on blue for notices where at least one is unseen */ #pt-notifications-notice .mw-echo-notifications-badge.mw-echo-unseen-notifications::after, #pt-notifications-notice .mw-echo-notifications-badge.oo-ui-flaggedElement-unseen::after { background-color: #0D5EF2; /* MonoBook's #B7CFFB reduced to 50% lightness */ color: white; } /* Red on white for alerts which have all been seen (not necessarily marked as read) */ #pt-notifications-alert .mw-echo-notifications-badge::after { font-size: 1em; background-color: white; color: #D11813; } /* Blue on white for notices which have all been seen */ #pt-notifications-notice .mw-echo-notifications-badge::after { font-size: 1em; background-color: white; color: #0D5EF2; }

Increase font weight

Especially with the new vector skin, this gadget's dark mode really lacks text clarity. Increasing the font weight suitably would solve the problem. Aaron Liu (talk) 11:55, 4 June 2022 (UTC)
- Not done please test this out first (you can use your personal css) and come up with an exact value that you want something changed to, which may need to be skin-specifically wrapped, when you have code ready to go reactivate the edit request. If this is just a suggestion for someone else to look in to it - that's fine too, discussion can certainly continue below. — xaosflux Talk 14:42, 4 June 2022 (UTC)
