2024 Bangladesh quota reform movement was organized to demand a reduction in the quota for government jobs and a recruitment system based on merit.[1][2] The movement experienced violent crackdown by the Awami League government, which resulted in numerous casualties. According to various news reports, over 266 people have been killed in the protests so far in 2024.[3][4][5] This heavy casualty ultimately led to the non-cooperation movement, where Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country. According to the primary report of the UN investigation, 650 people died in the protest related violence from 16 July to 5 August.[6]

  1. Abu Sayed - was a 12th batch student of the English department at Begum Rokeya University and one of the main coordinators of the university's quota movement.[7] He was killed by gunshot fired by police during clash between police and the protesters.[8]
  2. Wasim Akram - was a student of Chittagong College and the joint convener of the college unit of Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chatra Dal.[9]
  3. Faisal Ahmed Shanto, 24, was a student of Omargani M.E.S College.[10]
  4. Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mugdho - was a talented student of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP).[11] He was a renowned freelancer in freelance marketplace Fiverr , who offered their condolences on social media following his death.
  5. Tahir Zaman Priyo, 35, a journalist shot by police during protests at Science Lab area of Dhaka[11][12]
  6. Ridowan Sharif Riyad, a first-year student in the English department at Tongi Government College.[11]
  7. Ruhan, 20, died at Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital.[13]
  8. Sajidur Rahman Omar, 22, Demra based IT worker.[14]
  9. Shahjahan, Mohakhali salesman.[14]
  10. Tuhin Ahmed, 26, died at Enam Medical College and Hospital after getting shot in a clash with police.[14]
  11. Rudra Sen, a second-year student in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Polymer Science at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, drowned while trying to cross a canal with several friends in search of a safe shelter during a police chase amidst clashes between students and police and Chhatra League members during the quota reform movement on July 18.[15][16][17]

  14. Mahmudul Hasan Rizbi- was a student of Lakshmipur Polytechnic Institute and the activist of the Bangladesh Students Union.
  15. Farhan Faiyaz Ratul, was a class-XI student of Dhaka Residential Model College has been killed during a clash with the police and the Awami League men on 18th July, 2024[20]
  16. Shaikh Ashabul Yamin, was a student of the computer science department of Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) university murdered on 18th July, 2024 in Savar during a clash with AL members, their associate bodies, police, and BGB members. Video evidence shows two police officers throwing him out of their APC after brutal torturing. He was still alive when he was thrown to the ground from APC.[21]
  17. Rakib Hossain Rajib, was a student of Textile Engineering in Southeast University, shot dead by Police while he was in procession in Dhaka on 5 August, 2024. He was involved in the anti-quota movement from the very beginning.[22]
  18. Jahiduzzaman Tanvin, 25, talented engineering graduate of Islamic University of Technology and CTO, ANTS Aerial Systems, shot dead by police when he stood in solidarity with the protesters, distributing toothpaste packs to protect them from tear gas. His dead body indicated close range shotgun wounds. He was an award-winning technologist.[23]
  19. Rahul Islam was an eleventh-grade student at Raniganj Ehya Hossain School and College. He was injured by tear gas and gunshot fired by the police during protest on 4 August.[24]
  20. Tahmid Abdullah was a student of Bangladesh University of Business and Technology.[24]

  1. Riya Gope, six-year-old girl who was playing on her rooftop died from a stray bullet.[14][25]
  2. Sumaiya Akhtar Sumi, housewife who was shot by a stray bullet on a balcony[26]
  3. Arafat Rahman Akash - 16 year old fruit seller, killed while going out to get breakfast[27][28]
  4. Selim Mondol, 29, one of three workers burned to death in an arson attack on an under construction building in Narayanganj which also housed a unit of the Highway Police.[13][29]

  6. Sohel, 42, one of three workers burned to death in an arson attack on an under construction building in Narayanganj.[13]
  7. Mustaque Miah, 24, who had come to buy shoes. He got caught in the clash and was killed by police gunfire.[30]
  8. Jahangir Alam, 45, worked in making quilts and mattresses.[31]
  9. Khalid Hasan, 16, college student shot dead by police after Asr prayer who were chasing a group of protestors[32]
  10. Mamum Hossain, 27, private car driver shot on a flyover while heading to his aunt's house[33]
  11. Saad Mahmud, 14, student shot dead by police when he went to investigate smoke on a nearby road[34]
  12. Maruf Hossain - 20, grade 12 student who was passing by Badda.[35]
  13. Mostofa Zaman Samudra, 17, shot after going out to see friends after Jumma prayers[36]
  14. Muhammad Faruk, 32, furniture shop employee shot while crossing a road after having lunch in Chittagong[37]
  15. Md. Saiful Islam, 35, a sharecropper shot while in Amuakanda Bazar in Mymensingh district to sell his crops. His grandfather died of a stroke after hearing the news.[38]
  16. Ahsan Habib, 25, office assistant in Cox's Bazar shot while looking out at quota clashes from his office building[39]
  17. Jisan Ahmed, 19, a small-time water vendor in Dhaka shot while peeking outside after hiding during a clash between protestors and police. His wife Mishti died by suicide nine days later.[40]
  18. Jihad Howlader, 25, PG student at Kabi Nazrul Govt. College, Dhaka, shot while going to a roadside hotel for lunch[41]
  19. Imran Khalifa, 26, nightguard in Gulshan shot while heading towards a market[42]
  20. Maruf Hossain, 21, IT freelancer who just completed final exams at Kushtia Polytechnic Institute, came to Dhaka for an internship and was shot dead in Banasree by BGB.[43][44][45]
  21. Abdul Gani, 45, hotel worker shot during clash between police and protestors while heading to his workplace[46]
  22. Mahmudur Rahman Soikot, 19, shopkeeper who was searching for an injured friend before being shot by police[47]
