  1. ^ a b The Fighting Illini were led by fourth-year head coach John Mackovic during the regular season before he resigned and was replaced by Lou Tepper as interim head coach for the team's bowl game.
  2. ^ a b Zook was fired after the team lost the final six games of its regular season. Defensive coordinator Vic Koenning was appointed as interim head coach led the team in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl.
  3. ^ a b c Prior to the team's final game, Smith was relieved of his coaching duties and replaced by offensive coordinator Rod Smith on an interim basis.
