"during the last ice ages" is not too helpful - a more accurate time for this map would be appreciated. Is this the Last Glacial Maximum? Or some kind of average for maximal extent of ice during periods of glaciation in the Quaternary? 144.173.5.197 (talk) 11:03, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
- Agree a precise date would be very useful. This does not show the LGM - during the last glaciation the ice didn't reach near this far south across eastern Europe and towards the Black Sea. The Riss glaciation in Europe (about 250k-130k years ago) produced a larger icesheet and I suspect that kind of extent is reproduced on the map, but the whole of the map might be a composite: the farthest the ice got at any time, though not at the same time. Either way, the extent of glaciation in Siberia and central Asia is still under research and debate: some glaciologists posit ice sheets covering most of the Tibetan plateau, Pamir and much of the eastern Siberian Arctic coast and Kolyma/Lena area, others see most of those areas as cold deserts but not steadily glaciated. 83.254.154.164 (talk) 04:34, 16 November 2014 (UTC)
