Same size

edit

How come this .svg file is exactly the same size as the .png file? Aren't .svgs supposed to be smaller? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Thoric (talkcontribs) 22:09, February 16, 2007 (UTC).

By coincidence, and not necessarily. The size mainly due to Inkscape storing circles as paths. I'm sure you could make the file smaller, but why bother? The PNG that Mediawiki renders will be exactly the same. — Wereon 13:02, 17 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Eeek... mediawiki renders a 100k png file -- the original png file was under 30k. Not only that, but I get a png file even if my browser supports .svg files. --Thoric 03:11, 27 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Commons

edit

Why isn't this image on commons? Because the image itself is empty, it's a perfect chart to be translated... Puck 20:50, 26 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Because I'm not sure the procedure for putting it there... how do we go about doing that? --Thoric 21:39, 26 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
You just go to the Upload-page and copy this template information to the Summary-field:
{{Information
|Description=This new version of the psychoactive drug chart background graphic expands the antipsychotic ellipse into a full circle, balancing against the hallucinogen circle as the stimulant circle balances against the depressants. Whereas the old drug chart focused on an overlapping of three circles with the antipsychotic ellipse added as a "second thought", the new chart is an even mix of four overlapping circles. While this adds the complexity of new color regions, and a shrinkage of some previous regions, I believe that it is a move in the right direction. (I also feel that the new chart is much more aesthetically pleasing to the eye). See w:Template:Psychoactive drugs for an example to use this image.

And you choose the correct Licensing (eg. Own work, copy left, attribution required)

Hrm... great... now I cannot upload revisions because my account on Wikimedia is "too new" ;) D'oh! Also, it appears that the end result after all of this fun stuff, even when I've now optimized the .svg file down to under 16k, even if I use a browser that supports .svg files, Wikipedia serves me up a 100k .png file (the original png file was 30k). Seems there's some bugs to work out in this new system ;) --Thoric 03:10, 27 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've uploaded the image to wikimedia commons, and gave it a new name: image:PsychoactiveChart.svg Thoric 03:13, 27 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, I'll translate the diagram and put it on the Dutch Wikipedia... Puck 16:22, 2 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
