Title: Crew escape system (CES) testing with Astronaut Bagian in JSC WETF Bldg 29
Description: Crew escape system (CES) testing is conducted with Astronaut James P. Bagian in JSC Weightless Environment Training Facility (WETF) Bldg 29. Bagian, wearing the newly designed (navy blue) launch and entry suit (LES), is suspended over the WETF pool by parachute gear. Two SCUBA-equipped divers, already in the pool, watch as Bagian is raised above the pool. Technicians monitor the test activities from the pool side. In the background an emergency rescue vehicle and mockups are visible. During the exercise, a new CES pole for emergency exit from the Space Shuttle was tested. Bagian's parachute gear is like that each STS-26 crewmember and subsequent crews will carry onboard during launch.
