Easter Island?????????

Countries that won't recognize

Algeria and Russia gave only conditions. Which NTC must fulfill. It's not statement like Hugo Chavez. So delete those two. Add Zimbabwe. They are deporting ambassador, so they won't recognize. Other on the list are Equador and Nicaragua, maybe Belarus. Boniek1988 (talk) 18:27, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

In the case of Russia, I believe they said they wouldn't recognize because that would be non-neutral, and in a separate statement they said they would consider the NTC's status if they gained more control (what's most likely really behind this is oil deals, which Russia's non-recognition are making difficult). So those are two different statements. As for the other three, while Ecuador and Nicaragua certainly made pro-Gaddafi statements (mainly the latter, less so with the former), I don't think they ever said they won't recognize the NTC, unless I haven't been kept updated; Belarus meanwhile hasn't said much that I've heard. Links would be nice. But I'm wondering if this red color is really necessary- after all, Bulgaria once said they wouldn't recognize, but went ahead anyways (albeit under different circumstances). --Yalens (talk) 23:56, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

Issue with colour

Inconsistency with the colors

We should really be consistent here. Russia and Algeria both said they wouldn't recognize but then later said they would under certain conditions (in Russia, a separate event, but still). Either they both should be red, or both gray...--Yalens (talk) 16:21, 27 August 2011 (UTC)

I know that I'm using to often I've and that leads me to a dead end in conversations. In my language there are only three times (one century ago there was fourth time even the same as your past present simple) and this is quit confusing. Some countries recognize states, not regimes

This map lacks a colour for countries recognising (independent) states, not regimes. Among them is Sweden, who recognised the Republic of Kosovo via this statement in 2008. Secretary of state (foreign minister) Carl Bildt has pointed this out several times, like here, and adds here that many small nations apply this mode of conduct. In the SvD article mentioned above, civil rights expert Ove Bring points out (my translation): "Once we've recognised Libya, which we did lots of decades back, we automatically recognises the regime that is representing Libya internationally when this regime is in control of the Libyan state apparatus." This is just diplomatic double-speak. They do recognize regimes, or else anybody could show up from a recognized country and claim to be a formal representative. They are using 'international representation when in control of the state apparatus' as their criterion for legitimacy, but they still have to choose which faction is to be viewed as fulfilling this standard. All of the press conferences aside, this is what recognition amounts to - governments choosing which regime's representatives to receive as the embodiment of their nation, and every country has to make this choice, or choose not to have relations with any of them. Double-speak or not, then I'd be wondering about the defensive stance from the Swedish foreign office. Wow, it gets about! And it's an old version. But the licensing attributes this image as in the public domain, "without restrictions", so no, people do not need to ask for permission for this image to be used. Although if it were to be re-used in another file on wikipedia, we would have to attribute the author/source to avoid plagiarism (see Wikipedia:Public domain). What have you done to it? Alaska is now somehow hanging across the 180th meridian, either entering hyperspace or overlapping with Siberia. Compare the original blank map. I realize this isn't extremely important, but still, I see no reason to use a broken map like this one.
