When?

The mountains there look HUGE! I live a number of miles closer to the foothills and they don't even seem that big.

This photo is totally - repeat, totally - fake. This view does not exist in LA. The mountains in the background in this photo are not there. The 360 degree view of downtown LA shows a relatively flat landscape. Verification: I am the photographer, Jim Everett, of the linked panoramic shot 4113283.jpg. And I can assure you that the other image in question is real. It actually looks like one of mine. Sometimes I enhance levels and sharpness to reduce a little UV haze. It looks like this was done in the image in question. The picture is most likely taken from the Kenneth Hahn Reserve in Baldwin Hills off La Cienega. During winter, I watch the weather, and the day after a storm that drops snow and the air is clear, I (and dozens of other photographers) rush to the lookout to photograph it. The mountains are Mt San Antonio and Mt Baldy, and are in excess of 10,000 ft. There is a ski area atop Mt Baldy.
