File talk:GS-50 projection with lines of constant scale.svg

Producton notes edit

I created this map by tracing over the map in the cited source. I did not render a fresh projection from GIS data -- gdalwarp and Geo::Proj4 don't support this projection, and I wasn't ready to write a program to crunch those 10th-order polynomials. Here are a few notes about the results of my effort:

  • The SVG file is probably at too high a resolution. It is the size it is because I rendedered the PDF source at 600dpi in order to get as much detail out of the original as possible.
  • The lat-lon grid and scale lines are traced pretty accurately with Bezier curves.
  • The coastlines and borders, on the other hand, were drawn by tracing over the original with a mouse. The result of that hand tracing is rather rough at full resolution, but just fine at any normal rendering size, and it's perfectly adequate for the purpose of illustrating the projection.

I do not monitor a watch list on Wikimedia Commons with any regularity, nor access Commons frequently enough to see recent updates to my talk page here. Any attempt to contact me is best done on my talk page at the English Wikipedia. --Kbh3rdtalk 03:38, 26 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
