Needs revision edit

This graph needs to be completely revised. The problem is with the Yarmouthian, Kansan, Afton, and Nebraskan Stages shown in the graph. As stated in Pre-Illinoian Wikipedia article, the Quaternary of North America that predates the Illinoian Stage had been traditionally subdivided into the Nebraskian, Aftonian, Kansan, and Yarmouthian stages. Starting in 1978, Quaternary geologists as the result of doing detailed geological studies and using new dating techniques found that assumptions and criteria on which they were defined proved to be wrong to such a point that these stages became meaningless in terms of the actual glacial–interglacial record. The Nebraskian, Aftonian, Kansan, and Yarmouthian stages have been abandoned as being meaningless and are no longer used and have been combined into the Pre-Illinoian Stage. The use of these stages in this graph is scientifically incorrect and they should be removed from the graph as they utterly meaningless in terms of Quaternary chronology. The dates assigned to the various stages in the graph need to be correlated with an established and accepted chronology, i.e. Global chronostratigraphical correlation table for the last 2.7 million years. As a result, this graph is bad science that is based upon an obsolete and long abandoned stratigraphic terminology. The graph needs to be revised to remove the discredited terminology and have it replaced with the correct terminology. Paul H. (talk) 15:34, 17 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Go see PDF file for Global chronostratigraphical correlation table for the last 2.7 million years for latest correlation chart and current Quaternary stratigraphic terminology. Paul H. (talk) 17:15, 17 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

I removed the labels. How do you suggest improved labels? The Ice core source data is here [1] if you see better date demarcation corresponding to newer geological dates and name. Can you help with this? I'm not a geologist, so its all cold-learning for me. Tom Ruen (talk) 03:06, 18 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Looking at [2] do you suggest listing the older glacial periods as simply Pre-Illinoian A...E? Tom Ruen (talk) 03:37, 18 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hi, I sent you an email with a link to a zip file that you can download. It contains charts from Richmond and Fullerton (1986) that show the standard Midwwest glacial nomenclature and their Marine Isotope Stage (MIS) equivalents. These charts show the Marine Isotope Stages and ages for Pre-Illinoian glaciations A...E that can be used to include these older glacial stages as Pre-Illinoian A...E in your figure. Since Richmond and Fullerton (1986) published their charts, their "Eowisconsin" has been merged with and is now part of the Sangamon Stage, all of Marine Isotope Stage 5 (MIS5), and the Illinoian Stage is now considered equivalent to Marine Isotope Stage 6 (MIS6) only.
