I know this is just a hypothesis, but I don't think Dire Wolves went extinct fully; by that I mean the appearance of the hypothesized South American variant resembles that of Bush Dogs, that and the physical description could also possibly indicate some sort of descent by the Maned Wolf, due to both being noted for their long legs. 76.179.52.183 (talk) 22:17, 22 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

The maned wolf and bush dog are both part of an entirely different portion of the Canidae radiation than the dire wolf. Ucucha 04:12, 23 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
