I would hesitate to call Blue Knob a massif in a geologic sense, which by definition is fault-bounded. Blue Knob is an erosional remnant and is not fault-bounded. See the state geologic map of 1980. Other Appalachian mountians, particularly in the Blue Ridge, could be called massifs. However a less technical meaning of "massif" just refers to the main mountain mass, and this is undeniably true of Blue Knob. Jim Stuby (talk) 17:22, 21 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
