Turkey edit

Hi there, this map needs to be updated. Some units in Turkis Armed Forces uses AKM, AK-74M and AK-47. Turkey's colour should be pink not red. elmasmelih (used to be KazekageTR) 20:42, 25 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

If you can present an official link that wound support your statement, then the map may be altered. JC · Talk · Contributions 23:14, 16 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Portugal edit

Portugal should be in this map as the Airborne uses the Galil AR and ARM. Also, the SIG 551 is used by Special Forces and it's got AK origins. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.250.58.68 (talk) 17:38, 23 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

References (desperately) Needed, informational nature questionable edit

This map is not viable without sources. It seems to exist with the intent to make it look like the world uses "AK-47". There are no numbers or otherwise informative quantitative information (How many?, As primary rifle?). I can ensure you (look at wiki pages of guns) that most guns are used somewhere in some quantity. Especially the orange "derivative using countries" are questionable (please explain Germany's (current) use for instance). I would argue to remove any non-direct (very very similar) derivatives from the map.

That said, please don't argue that "any automatic piston rifle" is an AK-47 derivative or something fishy alike. The Daewoo K-2 for example is as much an AK as it is an M16 rifle (AR-15) (if not more). I would argue that the gas piston is not a sufficient argument to classify it as AK-47. Likewise you could argue that the AK-47 (most piston ARs) is pretty much derived from the M1 Garand and the Sturmgewehr 44, meaning that if we made a map about that, it would be all coloured and we would learn nothing.

In closing, as is, the map is pointless and uninformative. 77.5.76.235 (talk)

  • "A picture speaks a thousand words" and the map provides an effective visual representation of the AKs world wide usage. If the IP user (AKA: USER 217.186.51.33, USER 77.5.76.235 & USER 95.114.212.6) has a problem with the current map, then it is his responsibility to create a new map. If he has a problem with the information provided on the maps commons page, then it is his responsibility to make the necessary corrections. If he is unwilling and/or unable to do these things then the current map should stand as is...Also, said IP user is confusing the file usage section as a list of AK variants, when it only shows where the image is used on Wiki. That info is out of context and has no bearing on the file itself. For example...despite what the IP user stated above...the map itself does not show South Korea as an AK user and in no way implies that the Daewoo K2 is an AK variant. The IP user made that leap on his own.--RAF910 (talk) 03:57, 16 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
77.5.76.235: If you did not get consensus to remove the image in AK47 then how do you expect to get consensus for deleting the image file? As I've said before, this map may or MAY NOT have issues, but until we get a better one, if we ever do, you do not have consensus for deleting it. Removing info without replacing it isn't constructive. Several editors have expressed concerns and arguments against removing the map, and tried to clarify for you. And yes, the map is useful in providing an effective visual rep of AK's worldwide usage.
