William Farquaharson moved to the Provost area in 1908. Farquaharson ran as a UFA candidate in the 1922 by-election in the electoral district of Ribstone, winning the seat. He retained the seat in the elections of 1926 and 1930, but lost the seat the Social Credit candidate Albert Blue in 1935. In 1944 Farquaharson sold his farm, moved to Provost and operated North Star Bulk Oil Station and a bowling alley.
