English: Illustration for "The Wife of His Youth", a short story by American author Charles W. Chesnutt. Published as the frontispiece to The Wife of His Youth and Other Stories of the Color Line (Houghton Mifflin, 1899). The image particularly illustrates the final line of the tale, in which the main character reveals his relationship to the mysterious older woman. Titled as "This is the woman, and I am the man."
