Summary

Description
English: White Ladies Priory - Northern wall. White Ladies Priory is correctly known as The Augustinian Priory of St Leonard at Brewood, see http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=39931&strquery=White%20Ladies, but is widely known by its alternative name. This view is of the remains of the northern wall of the nave, dating from the late C12th.

The priory had been abandoned by the nuns by May 1538 as a result of Henry VIII's Act of 1536 which ordered the closure of all monasteries with an annual value of less than £200. As Whiteladies scraped a meagre £17 per annum it was certain to close. A C16th century house - now entirely demolished - replaced some of the former domestic priory buildings. This house played its part in the flight of the fugitive King Charles II, as he hid here prior (no pun intended) to his more famous arboreal activities at 1289537 !

All that now remains of the priory is these walls of the Priory Church and a few low walls and earthworks of the associated buildings.
