Currently on display suspended in the ‘AirSpace’ hangar at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford Airfield, Cambridgeshire, UK. 26th January 2018 The following history for XK936 comes from the IWM website:- “This aircraft served in Malta and Singapore in the 1950s and flew on commissions with HMS Bulwark in the Far East. It is one of the most well-travelled of IWM’s exhibits, and was deployed to the vast majority of the ‘East of Suez’ areas of operations. It also served as an air-sea rescue helicopter, in addition to its anti-submarine roles. Its full service history is as follows:- 1 Aug 1957 delivered to RNAS Lee. 23 Sept 1957 - 7 Jan 1958 to 845 Squadron. 7 Jan 1958 - 13 Jan 1958 to RNAS Lee. 13 Jan 1958 - 15 May 1958 to 820 Squadron. 15 May 1958 - 18 June 1958 to 701 Squadron RNAS Lee. 18 June 1958 - 26 July 1958 to HMS Albion 26 July 1958 - 11 May 1960 to RNAS Halfar 11 May 1960 - 3 Jan 1961 to 848 Squadron 3 Jan 1961 - 28 Dec 1961 to RNAHU Tengah 28 Dec 1961 to 848 Squadron 16 Dec 1962 to RNAY Fleetlands 13 Oct 1964 - 8 Dec 1964 to 847 Squadron 8 Dec 1964 - 14 Oct 1966 to AHU Fleetlands 14 Oct 1966 - 28 Nov 1967 to 705 Squadron Culdrose 28 Nov 1967 - 10 Dec 1968 to RNAY Fleetlands 10 Dec 1968 - 31 Jan 1969 to Culdrose where it served with 705 Squadron 6 Dec 1974 to RNAY Wroughton till its transfer to IWM in October 1975” |
