This local variant of the widespread western wallflower is distinguished by having an unusually thick central stem with numerous slender ascending lateral branches, leaves well-distributed throughout, and seeds partially winged. It is found along the east base and lower slopes of the Sierra Nevada Nevada from southern Washoe County Nevada to Mono County, California.
