Description Photo of President Taft's private study, today known as the Treaty Room. The flag in the back is a presidential flag from the Army (the Navy had a separate version) with 46 stars, which was used starting in 1908 before changing to a 48-star version in 1912. The painting on the wall on the left is Signing of the Peace Protocol Between Spain and the United States, August 12, 1898 by Théobald Chartran,[1] an event which took place in this room, and the painting still hangs there.
