Summary

Description
English: This image shows schist beds of the lower Vadito Group, which is not divided into formations in the Picuris Mountains, New Mexico, USA. The outcrops here are rich in large (several cm) porphyroblasts of andalusite, a polymorph of aluminum silicate. The Vadito Group contains all three polymorphs at different locations, showing that metamorphism took place close to the triple point.
