Description

Under the Guard of the Ikon - The Reign of Terror on the Roumanian Frontier

The inhabitants of Russian Ungheni (there is a Roumanian Ungheni) are in great fear of the town's being devastated by some of the criminal bands who are turning the revolution to their own purposes of depredation. They do not trust the military guards. As the attacks are generally made first on the Jews, the Christians place their ikons (sacred pictures) and lamps on their gates and windows as a sign that the houses belong to true believers.
