English: Naval Base Point Loma, San Diego, Calif. (Feb. 7, 2003) -- 1st LT William B. Ellis, a "Tuskegee Airmen" in World War II assigned to the "Fighting 99th", 332nd Fighter Wing, signs an autograph during an African American History month breakfast. On Jul. 19, 1941, the Army Air Force began a program in Alabama to train black Americans as military pilots. Once a cadet completed primary training at Tuskegee's Moton Field, he was sent to nearby Tuskegee Army Air Field for completion of flight training and for transition to combat type aircraft.
