DescriptionTucking in, yet watchful (7568587412).jpg
This elephant, a bit away from the rest of the herd, has just stuffed his mouth with fresh grass. In fact, you can still see the grass in his mouth. The unusually curved trunk as he withdraws it from his mouth reminded me of the prehensile tail of a chameleon. The trunk is a wonderful and very pragmatic possession of the elephant. It has a variety of uses: to pick up stuff, to pluck grass, to break twigs, leaves and branches, to clean roots of mud, to suck in water for drinking, and then to spray it for cooling off, for having a 'dust bath' which elephants are so famous for (it clears ticks and flies), for self defense, and not forgetting for breathing.
