C., February 1,1900.Sir: I have the honor to transmit herewith a report on the historyand present status of the agricultural experiment stations in the United- States, prepared at the request of the Committee of the Association ofAmerican Agricultural Colleges and Experiment Stations on the Col-lective Station Exhibit at the Paris Exposition of 1900, and in accord-ance with your instructions governing the work of this Office on mattersrelating to that exposition. At the convention of the Association ofAmerican Agricultural Colleges and Experiment Stations held atMinneapolis, Minn., July 13-15, 1897, it was decided that the associa-tion would undertake the preparation of a Collective Station Exhibitfor the Paris Exposition of 1900, provided the cooperation of theDepartment of Agriculture could be secured, and the following com-mittee was appointed to have charge of this exhibit:
