It's not the tallest -- there are many other much taller buildings -- but, nevertheless, it is the tower block; when a Bucharester speaks of the tower block, this is it. It's a fine example of the modernist architecture of the late '50s, which had replaced overnight the pseudo-neo-classical Stalinist designs which had dominated the first decade of Communist rule.
