English: The Thomas Telford memorial at Bentpath By the B709 at the hamlet of Bentpath 5 miles west of Langholm. The famous engineer was born on 9th August 1757 at nearby Glendinning, and was responsible for the design of many bridges, roads and canals. He served as first president of the Institution of Civil Engineers until his death in 1834.
