Description	Picture of John Baldessari's photo installation The Fallen Easel (1988) at the Art Institute of Chicago, in 2023. A series of photographs are displayed on a gallery wall, placed at various odd angles. Four photographs at the bottom of the piece are framed, while the top photograph is unframed, having been sliced into multiple long rectangles that were then reassembled on the wall, leaving out most of the original image and creating an empty triangle of space in the middle of the image. Beginning clockwise from the center right, the photographs depict: a group of three men in suits whose faces have each been covered with a red, yellow, and blue dot, respectively, each with an additional, smaller white dot covering a presumed identifier on their lapel; a grainy image of a dolphin or other marine mammal in mid-air having just breached the ocean; a hand entering a scene from the left holding a gun, in a room that appears to be an office or classroom, with most of the rest of the image cropped out; a painting easel knocked over on the ground outdoors, in front of a line of small stones and several sets of shoes from unidentified people outside the image; and, lastly, in the sliced and reassembled photograph, a group of military leaders and politicians standing and sitting around a table in what appears to be a government conference room.
