English: The Emancipation Monument, Edinburgh. This famous monument to Scots who died fighting in the Union Army during the American Civil War lies within the Old Calton Burial Ground where the Philosopher David Hume, the Publisher Archibald Constable and the Sculptor Sir John Steell are all buried. The monument was unveiled in 1893 and the bronze lifesize statue of Abraham Lincoln was created by the well known American Sculptor George E. Bissell and is the only American Civil War Memorial outside the United States of America, the statue was also the first lifesized statue of an American President unveiled in Europe.
