For he was astonished, andso were his partners, James and John, at the multitude of fishes they had taken.Jesus did this miracle so that these men might see it, and believe on him andknow that he was the Son of God, because he had chosen them to be hisdisciples, and to go -with him wherever he should go. And he said to them,Come with me. Then they left their boats and their nets and all that they had,and followed him. On the Sabbath day, Jesus went into the synagogue and taught the people. A man was there who had an evil spirit. And he cried out to Jesus, saying, Let us alone: what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth P Art thou come to destroy us? I know thee, that thou art the Son of God. Jesus said to the evil spirit, Be still, and come out of him. Then the spirit threw the man down, and cried with a loud voice, and came out of him. And all who were in the synagogue were astonished, and said among themselves, What does this mean? for even the wicked spirits obey him. 236

Inthe evening when the sun had set, the people of the city brought many whowere sick, and who had evil spirits, to the house where Jesus was, and a greatmultitude were gathered about the door. And he healed the sick, and cast outthe evil spirits from those who had them.
