Sua construção foi confiada ao português Francisco Mendonça, casado com a tia do proprietário, que era um curioso, sem formação profissional definida. Como os operários locais não soubessem assentar as pastilhas da varanda, Amado Bahia fez desembarcar um técnico espanhol que passava pelo porto de Salvador e que orientou também o revestimento das paredes;1901 - A casa é inaugurada;1955/56 - A família Amado Bahia doa o solar à Associação dos Empregados do Comércio da Bahia, para nele ser instalado um sanatório."
