Summary

Description
English: This is the stem of the boat Smyril, which is a wooden rowboat from Vágur, Suðuroy, Faroe Islands. Sámal Hansen, boat builder built it in 2003. It has the same name as the ferry, which sails on the route Suðuroy - Tórshavn. Smyril is the Faroese word for the bird Merlin. This is a so-called 6-mannafar. 6 people are rowing the boat and one is steering to rowing competitions, just like the 5-mannafør. In 8-mannafør 8 people are rowing and in 10-mannafør 10 people are rowing. The competitions are split into boys and girl, men and women. The larger boats, the 8 and 10-mannafør is only for men. Children are also rowing in the 5-mannafør boats.
Vágsfjørður (fjorden) ses i baggrunden.
