Saturday 16 May 1896 QUEENSLAND Brisbane, May 11 Samuel Little, a miner, working at the Rocky diggings, left there on foot at the end of March, intending to walk to Coen. As he did not reach his destination the police followed his tracks until they were no longer visible, owing to rain, and after several days unsuccessful search they returned to Coen. Sergeant Whiteford and Constable Brennan, with trackers, renewed the search on April 27. They picked up the tracks and followed them through the ranges. Little had marked trees to showing his route. Eventually his remains were found in a small creek, where he apparently had camped for some time. He had built a grass hut, and the place was strewn with mussel shells. There was no sign of any fire.
