Description
English: This image, acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites on 22 October 2021, shows the Savage Islands, an archipelago under Portuguese jurisdiction located halfway between Madeira and the Canary Islands. The archipelago, according to naturalists, represents the most intact ecosystem in the north-east Atlantic. Due to the unique nature of this ecosystem, at the end of November 2021, the Portuguese government declared the Savage Islands a protected marine area. As such, it is the largest in an EU country and in the entire North Atlantic.

GMES dedicated data and GMES service information are provided to users without any express or implied warranty, including as regards quality and suitability for any purpose.
