English: Seat and handrails for increasing accessibility (Tanzania)
The seats are simply made from concrete blocks with side of a pit latrine hole and with a smooth varnished seat cover which is easily cleanable. The two pictures also provide two examples of handrail designs, one fixed to the floor and one to the wall. The height of the seat, the handrails and the space in the latrine should be tested with people with disabilities before finalising designs as heights that are too high or low or spaces which are too small can limit the accessibility of the latrine.
