DescriptionSandringham House and the upper lake with the nest-4573958187.jpg
English: Sandringham House and the upper lake with the nest. More shots of the upper lake, heading past the dell and waterfall. Including the nest. Shot of the lake with Sandringham House in the background. The site was purchased for the Prince of Wales in 1862 (later King Edward VII). The red brick house was completed by 1870. It is the country retreat for the Queen and the Royal Family during the winter months (December to February). Four generations of British Monarchs have lived here from Edward VII to Elizabeth II (including George V and George VI). George VI died here in 1952. The house was open to the public in 1977. While here, I found out that you are not allowed to take photos inside the house, so I didn't. Instead I bought a guide book which has images of the house interiors. Above the entrance door round the back, inside there is an enscription that says "This house was built by Albert Edward Prince of Wales and Alexandra his wife in the year of our lord 1870". The nest is to the right of the house in this shot. It was built for Queen Alexandra on the rockery overlooking the lake and the dell. It is a summer house built in 1913.
