Description

Went for a morning walk around Alcester in Warwickshire. Alcester is market town that was founded by the Romans.


The Roman Alcester Museum is near the roundabout between Priory Road and Seggs Lane.

It has been closed for the duration of lockdown. Hopefully Government restrictions could change from July 2020.

Also known as the Roman Alcester Heritage Centre. Located in Globe House.

It is now also home to Alcester Library.

Under the name Alcester Library and Roman Museum.

The museum opened in 2005. The building was formerly the old Magistrates Court building.


The History Stone.

Commissioned in 1969 and put in the garden of Alcester's new civic buildings. It was sculpted by Walter Richie and was commissioned by the now former Warwickshire County Architect Eric Davies.

There is six panels:

  • Needle and Spring - products of Alcester's past industries.
  • Goose - A reminder of Alcester's Goose Fair.
  • Roman Soldier - representing the Roman settlement in Alcester.
  • Lady on a horse with a bird - The transport history in Alcester.
  • Man carrying a heavy sack - A 14th century miller.
