Afrikaans: Die 22-jarige Debora Jacoba Retief, dogter van voortrekker Piet Retief, het haar vader se naam op hierdie rots by Kerkenberg aangebring om sy 57ste verjaardag op 12 November 1837 te gedenk. 62 jaar later word ook name aangebring van die Bethlehemse kommando, wat op 10 Oktober 1899 met die uitbreek van die Anglo-Boereoorlog, hier aandoen om Oliviershoekpas te beset.[1][2]
English: Debora Retief, daughter of voortrekker Piet Retief, painted her father's name on this rock at Kerkenberg, eastern Free State, to commemorate his 57th birthday on the 12th November 1837. On 10 October 1899, members of the Bethlehem commando also recorded their names here, when they arrived to guard a pass on the Free State border at the start of the Boer War.
