English: Illustration to Eclogue III. Introductory. The Bowl of Theocritus. / Plate opposite page 52, Volume I: Virgil. The Pastorals of Virgil. Third edition. / Most of the 232 illustrations are not identified, although a few have the name or initials of the wood engraver John Byefield or his sister Mary. / Seventeen of the woodcuts, illustrating Ambrose Philips' Imitation of Eclogue I (volume 1, pages 13-18) were designed and executed by William Blake as follows: Facing page 13, 14 (4 designs), 15 (4 designs), 16 (4 designs), 18 (4 designs). Three others in this series were engraved after Blake by another hand (facing page 17). The wood engraving facing page 21 was engraved by Byfield after a design by Blake based on that of Poussin.
