Summary

Description
English: Quarrywood Doocot This doocot probably dates from the 15th century. It is quite small, only 5.5 metres x 5 metres (18 feet 3 inches by 16 feet 3 inches) and the roof of overlapping stone slabs is unusual. It was converted into a water tank in 1906. Only a laird was permitted to build a doocot. The pigeons provided fresh meat in winter, and they fed themselves by foraging in the fields. See http://canmore.rcahms.gov.uk/en/site/16216/details/quarrywood+dovecot/ for more details and an account of archaeological excavations around this doocot.
