Summary

Description
English: Project Mercury - Capsule #2. Capsule complete in Lewis Hangar near Cleveland, Ohio. Lewis is now known as the Glenn Research Center. Capsule #2 was the Mercury spacecraft used in the failed Mercury-Redstone 1 mission and the Mercury-Redstone 1A mission, both of which were unmanned. In this photo, the capsule's structural skin is visible, because the protective covering of corrugated "shingles" hasn't yet been applied. The capsule's control jets have also not yet been installed.
