English: Although not formally declared as a PHS at time of writing, Council of Heritage Western Cape has agreed to the declaration of portions 18-36 Verlorenvlei 8 as a Provincial Heritage Site. Formal gazetting is expected soon.
The Verlorenvlei settlement is regarded as a unique remnant of a particular way of life with a distinctive architectural style which has developed from the first permanent buildings which were erected in the late 18th Century.The settlement has architectural, archaeological, historic and ecological significance and is a declared RAMSAR site.
Overall the social-cultural significance of the settlement makes it a priceless piece of Africana.
