Use in article (WP:NFCC#7) Plácido Domingo
Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8) This photograph provides proof that (as mentioned in the article) Domingo sang the starring tenor role of Rafael the bullfighter in El gato montés as a 17-year-old in 1958, a time when he was primarily performing baritone roles and a year before his operatic debut as a tenor comprimario and three years before his official debut as a leading tenor. He does not mention this in the text of his memoirs; he only provides this picture with a caption with basic information about the photo (date, role, title, place, who he's singing with). It also illustrates what a zarzuela-style production and costumes looked like (which most readers would not be familiar with already), and especially what a scene from a production of Domingo's parents' zarzuela company in particular looked like.
Not replaceable with
free media because
(WP:NFCC#1)
There are no free alternative photographs of Domingo from a young age, nor are there any of him performing in a zarzuela. More fundamentally, nothing except a photo of him as a teenaged Rafael from El gato montés could prove that he performed the role in 1958, as an early exploration of the tenor range that later became the primary focus of his career. (This especially muddies the common claim that he began his singing career simply as a baritone, as well as the allegation that he is much older and began his singing career at a much later age than he claims—see his article's talk page and archives and the Italian Wikipedia article on him for more on this controversy.)
Minimal use (WP:NFCC#3) This photo will only be used in the main Plácido Domingo article, where his career as a teenaged singer of zarzuelas, musicals, and operas is discussed in the subsection "Early years" under "Biography and career." It is a low resolution image.
Respect for
commercial opportunities
(WP:NFCC#2)
This is a low resolution image that would not be suitable for professional use. This is also a personal photo that belongs to Plácido Domingo and was not originally created for commercial purposes. He has also widely published it for free on his Facebook page at a much higher resolution.
