Monument to the first American pioneer families who arrived at the mouth of the w:Muskingum River, at the confluence of the Ohio and Muskingum rivers, during August 1788. These first families arrived several months after the first forty-eight pioneer men, and helped establish w:Marietta, Ohio as the first permanent American settlement of the new w:United States in the w:Northwest Territory. The monument is located on Front Street in Marietta, Ohio, near the Ohio River Museum. The photo was taken during August 2008. I took this photo, and I release to the public domain.
