Italiano: Piazza Mazzini a Catania. La piazza, l'antico Piano San Philippo di origine medievale, fa parte del sistema regolatore voluto dal viceré Uzeda per la città, subito dopo il terremoto del 1693, originariamente un grande quadrato che facesse da luogo di raduno antisismico. L'attuale aspetto lo si deve invece ad un ingentilimento voluto a metà XIX secolo, con l'adattamento del quadrato in ottagono mediante l'aggiunta di un portico arcuato arioso e regolare. Gli archi sono sostenuti da una serie di trentadue colonnine in marmo di epoca Romana provenienti dal vicino convento di Sant'Agostino e attribuite ad una basilica legata al vicino foro. |
