Summary

Description
English: Phosgenite
Locality: Monteponi Mine, Iglesias, Carbonia-Iglesias Province, Sardinia, Italy (Locality at mindat.org)
A relatively large and thick crystal, with fine form, of an Italian classic that is extremely difficult to obtain in gem crystals, and virtually unobtainable in a specimen as glassy and gemmy as this one. You could actually cut largish rare gemstones from this superb crystal! The crystal is complete on the display face, with fine lustrous faces, and has natural contact faces on the bottom and back. It is undamaged anc complete save for a few very minor spots on the bottom, and is damned near doubly terminated. There are a couple of small rough spots at the edge of the termination in front, that may be a bit of contact or simply growth oddity (hard to tell) ; but the important thing about this crystal is not pristine condition, but rather its through-and-through gemminess, particularly for its size. Purchased by a local Dallas collector at the Desert Inn , back in 1987 3.0 x 3.0 x 2.5 cm
