Français : Photographie d'une Peugeot 206 S16. Héritière de la fameuse 205 GTI, la Peugeot 206 S16 (également connue sous le nom de 206 GTI sur certains marchés), est équipée d'un moteur 1 997 cm³ de 137 ch.

Une série limitée, appelée 206 GT, produite à 4 000 exemplaires, en a été dérivée afin d'obtenir une homologation en WRC. Elle se distingue par ses pare-chocs plus importants, la 206 n'étant pas assez longue à l'origine pour pouvoir prétendre à la catégorie WRC.

À l'origine, des options telles que la peinture gris iceland ou les optiques de phares transparents lui étaient exclusivement réservées, tout comme les jantes 'foudres' de 15 pouces, les rétroviseurs laqués noirs, puis Peugeot les a progressivement étendues à l'ensemble de la gamme 206.

Depuis 2002, la 206 RC est venue rejoindre la S16 au sommet de la gamme 206.
