Summary

Description From source: Morphology of the Mesozoic Palaeoxyris fossil chondrichthyan egg case. The egg case consists of three sections: the beak, body and pedicle. A long tendril extended from the beak which aided in the anchoring and attachment of specimens to bottom structures and aquatic plants. A collarette flanks the side of the egg case and is distinctive for different species. The collarette in the Mesozoic form of Palaeoxyris extends down the pedicle in a vertical manner, a different morphology from that of Palaeozoic specimens.
